Each and every summer, hundreds of senior adults in Northwest Florida summer through the heat without air conditioning or any sort of respite from the sun. Heat-induced medical complications cause more deaths every year than hurricanes, tornadoes and floods combined, according to the CDC. Lack of access to air conditioning is not only a public health crisis; it is also a miserable way to live for our area's most vulnerable. That's why each and every year, Council on Aging of West Florida partners with Home Instead Senior Care Foundation and the local Home Instead Senior Care office to distribute free window AC units to seniors in need. Your donation supports that initiative.
At Council on Aging, we provide an array of social services to seniors, including Meals on Wheels, Senior Dining Sites, adult day health care center, Senior Companions, Foster Grandparents, respite care and more. All of those programs are funded through federal and state grants, private donations, and other means.
