The VAS Senior Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIAP) is a free, unbiased, resource for seniors needing assistance navigating the complex Medicare system. VAS serves as a "one-stop shop", filling a critical need for a local resource where seniors can learn about Medicare and other health insurance coverage through counseling sessions or group educational workshops. Trained and certified volunteer Medicare counselors work with seniors to understand Medicare coverage, costs, enrollment periods and the coordination of other insurance coverage to help them develop an individualized transition plan into Medicare.
