This program, the largest in the county, provides home-delivered food boxes to low-income seniors who cannot come to the onsite food bank due to health, safety, and transportation issues. Clients receive food boxes that average 40 lbs. of prepackaged food, fresh produce, meats, dairy, and other healthy food along with personal care items and pet food.
MADF's Eloise Cooking Pot (ECP) Food Bank, which opened in 2009, is the second-largest, independently owned food bank with the largest home delivery program in Pierce County, WA. The ECP Food Bank removes the barrier to a basic and essential need - access to healthy, nutritious food - by making food readily available and easily accessible. Of the clients we serve, 45% receive home delivery due to medical, transportation, and safety barriers that keep them homebound, unable to access normal drop-in services. Home delivery serves low-income seniors and disabled people in subsidized housing who struggle to make ends meet and meet their needs for healthy, nutritious meals. Clients get food meal boxes delivered directly to them with each box averaging 40 lbs. of fresh and pre-packaged food, and/or culturally sensitive and special diet food, enough for about 6 meals. They also receive non-food items as needed, including hygiene supplies, household products, and pet food. Delivery services are provided throughout Pierce County six days a week during varied hours that coincide with the drop-in food bank hours. Clients can receive deliveries each time the home delivery service operates.
