Partners In Care Supportive Services for Older Adults
Partners In Care Maryland, Inc. is dedicated to providing supportive services for older adults so that they can live independently in their own homes and remain actively engaged in their communities as they age in place. Partners In Care (PIC) has formed a caring "safety net" for older Maryland adults since 1993 beginning in Anne Arundel County and subsequently expanding to serve the residents of Frederick County, Talbot County, and Caroline County.
PIC's "Ride Partners" program provides approximately 17,000 rides per year for older adults to non-emergency medical appointments, pharmacies, grocery stores, errands, and recreation. Volunteers using their cars offer door-through-door, arm-in-arm, no-monetary cost rides. PIC Up Buses provide affordable, wheelchair-accessible, on-demand transportation for those who need extra assistance.
While older adults usually contact PIC initially because they need rides, they find that PIC volunteers can help them in many other ways: with small handyman repairs, with help to complete forms and applications for services in the community, and with advocacy and help to navigate sometimes-complicated-to-reach agencies and institutions.
