Cincinnati Area Senior Services (CASS) is seeking grant funding to purchase an additional vehicle for the Meals-on-Wheels program. For the homebound senior with health or mobility issues, preparing daily meals can be difficult, if not impossible. Many seniors are unable to get to the grocery store and are not able to prepare their meals. Others have no family or other caregivers to help them. For these seniors, Meals-on-Wheels is a lifeline. CASS is the largest provider of Meals-on-Wheels in Greater Cincinnati, serving an average of 1,300 meals daily to over 1,700 seniors annually. In 2019, CASS delivered over 325,000 meals. As the homebound senior population continues to grow in the Greater Cincinnati area, the need for Meals-on-Wheels continues to be needed to serve the increased demand. In order for CASS to do this, we need to purchase an additional vehicle for our fleet. We currently have 10 MOW vehicles that are on the road daily M-F and there is no back up for when we need to add additional clients to our delivery. We are on track to deliver more Meals this year than in the past and this is putting a strain on our aging fleet. Adding an additional MOW vehicle will give us the opportunity to also have a backup, if needed, especially if one of our vehicles is out of service or needs repair.
CASS was founded in 1967 as a project to support isolated seniors in Cincinnati. The first service provided was Meals-on-Wheels to seniors in downtown Cincinnati, Mt. Auburn and Over-the-Rhine. More than 50 years later, CASS is now the Cincinnati leader in providing support services to seniors. In addition to Meals-on-Wheels, CASS provides transportation so that seniors can be out in the community and engaged in the activities of everyday life; Financial Case Management for seniors who need assistance in organizing their bills, talking to creditors and making payments on time. Our staff also helps eliminate financial exploitation and fraud for our clients. CASS also serves breakfast and lunch at 8 different congregate meals sites throughout Hamilton County. CASS also provides Senior Care Coordination that provides individualized care coordination, support and guidance for clients. The program partners seniors with a specialized caring professional that helps them with a wide range of services. Senior Care Coordination provides high quality, comprehensive care management, no matter how little or how much assistance a client needs.
The mission of Cincinnati Area Senior Services is to provide enhanced stability and safety for seniors who desire to remain independent by adapting to their needs and providing accessible and relevant community services and programs.
