Since 1979, the Care Assurance System for the Aging and Homebound of Madison County has provided volunteer services that help our aging and homebound neighbors "age in place" more safely and independently. Services provided to clients include installation of wheelchair ramps, grab bars, handrails; transportation to medical appointments; weatherization to prepare their homes for the winter; and loaning of durable medical equipment often not covered my Medicare or Medicaid. Some clients also benefit from additional services when available such as fresh produce from the CASA Vegetable Garden, protective undergarments, yard work, and small grocery items. In order to continue to provide these needed services, CASA of Madison County relies 100% on generous donations from individuals, companies, churches, and grants. CASA does not receive budgeted funds from our state or the federal government.
"My utility bills were a great stress to me and CASA volunteers came on a Saturday morning to apply plastic to my windows and fix some of the small drafts in my home. This help reduced my utility bill, but the best part was the caring volunteers and the time they spent with me." - Ms. C., 71 years old
"The fresh vegetables have really helped me to improve my health. My last doctor's appointment saw improvements I had not seen in a long time. This food is not food I would have access to regularly and I so love the visits from the volunteers." - Ms. B, 68 years old
"As a CASA Volunteer, I think I get more out of the service than the client we are there to help. The work that we are doing is very rewarding and the appreciation we receive is far beyond the few hours we spend helping. Watching someone receive their freedom and regain their independence after a wheelchair ramp is installed, is an overwhelming joy for me and the other volunteers I work with." - Scott S. CASA Volunteer
CASA's mission is to provide needed services to aging and homebound individuals that allow them to remain at home and age in place. "Aging" is defined as 60 years or older, and there is no age restriction for those who are wheelchair or homebound. All of our services are provided at no cost to the client.
