Banner Neighborhoods' Senior Home Repair Programs provide a combination of direct home repair services and resource referrals to ensure older and/or disabled homeowners in Southeast Baltimore and live safely and healthily at home. Our participants enjoy knowing there is always a neighbor to call when a smoke detector breaks or a new handrail needs to be installed, when a roof leaks or the house gets too drafty in the winter, and when they need to talk to someone about estate planning or high bills.
We serve seniors across seven neighborhoods in Baltimore not just because they are seniors but because they are neighbors. Through our work, we help stabilize communities and create bridges across generations. We facilitate projects where youths do yardwork for seniors and deliver groceries, allowing neighbors to meet and grow together. Home safety modifications from handrails to stair lifts allow elder neighbors to stay at home, providing a place for family to visit and preventing more vacants on our blocks. Assistance with access to financial resources help seniors maintain income and weather changes, thereby providing an anchor to neighborhood history.
The mission of Banner Neighborhoods is to promote resident-based leadership, neighborhood pride and stability, and provide direct services that contribute to the overall viability throughout 10 communities in southeast Baltimore.
