For patients with any type of cancer and their caregivers, A Time To Heal's signature course, Survivorship 101, provides support, education, skills and strategies so survivors and their caregivers can create their best lives after cancer diagnosis and treatment. Based with over 10 years of research, a series of free weekly classes focus on a variety of topics and relaxation techniques, while offering interaction with other cancer survivors and caregivers. Since the beginning of our program, the majority of the participants are over the age of 65 years old. Results show Survivorship 101 increases hope, resilience, quality of life and happiness, while decreasing depression and anxiety in both older and younger participants. Cancer impacts all people no matter the age, race, income levels and gender, however incidence of a cancer diagnosis increases with age and older adults are living longer due to medical advances and screening, hence increasing the number of cancer survivors around the world. Caregivers and loved ones are also impacted by the disease and life is forever changed after a cancer diagnosis. Like someone undergoing cardiac rehab after a heart attack, a cancer patient also deserves help in recovering from cancer, too. Due to the high cost of treatment and follow up care, many cancer survivors do not have the financial resources to take care of themselves. Survivorship 101 is offered free of charge and facilitated by licensed medical and mental health professionals with no cost to the survivor and their caregivers. Participants complete a survey during Class #1, Class #12 and 6-months of class completion to measure outcomes. ATTH partners with the Department of Social Work at UNO to provide the data entry and reporting of the data and the research. Survivorship 101 is currently offered throughout the state of Nebraska and has trained facilitators in South Dakota, Iowa, Wisconsin and Northern California.
