You can make a difference right now in the lives of local seniors in-need!
With Winter around the corner, and with many older adults in our community struggling to meet their basic needs such as access to transportation, affordable housing, paying their heating bill, and the rising costs for necessities such as food and healthcare, Vintage House is seeking your support for its Vital Services Program Fund.
With more than 10,000 seniors age 65+ living in Sonoma Valley, and with a growing number of them living on social security, food stamps, and other government assistance programs, there is a real need for us as a community to step up to better support our elders.
Vintage House is designing new programs, developing new partnerships, and expanding services to address the most prevalent needs of vulnerable seniors in the Valley, but we simply can't do it alone. With your support we will:
-- expand our outreach and partnership with local employers that have part-time positions available and who are interested in employing local seniors. Through JobConnect, Vintage House is screening interested candidates for open positions and connecting qualified individuals with local businesses. JobConnect helps seniors, employers, and our entire community.
-- assist seniors in need of housing. Vintage House is teaming up with SHARE Sonoma County to address the critical need for affordable housing for seniors in the Valley. Many seniors are being pushed out of their homes due to rising rents, and others who may own homes can no longer afford to meet the ongoing costs of maintaining them. Working together through HousingConnect, Vintage House will screen seniors interested in co-housing and refer eligible individuals to SHARE, who will create co-housing matches for seniors in Sonoma Valley. This solution provides a steady income for homeowners, making it possible for them to afford to stay in their homes, while also providing below-market-rate rent in a co-housing environment for seniors who are at risk of having to move out of the Valley. Again, this is a win-win solution for seniors and our community!
--Increase our free transportation program, myRide, which supports seniors who no longer drive, helping them to stay active and engaged in the community by providing free rides to qualifying individuals. With your help we will expand service to offer rides at night and on weekends through a ride voucher program in partnership with local taxi services. In 2019, we expect to provide 5,000 rides!
"Without myRide I would be stuck at home alone and become isolated and depressed. I get by on social security and food stamps and I honestly don't know what I would do without myRide. When I think about what myRide means to me, all I can think is grateful, grateful, grateful!" Lynette P., myRide Rider
