Y OPAS is "volunteer driven"! We need your help to continue to provide support services to help Ahwatukee seniors age in place.
Y OPAS is an outreach program of the YMCA. The 16-year-old program serves more than 400 seniors in the Ahwatukee area of Phoenix. Nearly 200 volunteers drive clients to medical appointments, to the grocery store, to personal errands and more. We average over 80 appointments per week. Last year our volunteers drove 72,746 miles, completing 4576 appointments and donating 9646 hours of time to help our local seniors maintain their independence. All of our services are offered free of charge to any senior over 62 in our community.
In addition to transportation, we offer friendly visits, phone calls and caregiver relief, as well as household help with minor repairs and bookkeeping.
We also provide monthly social activities that help our local seniors stay connected to their community. Social connection reduces isolation and loneliness, helps prevent anxiety and depression, and helps seniors feel vital and active. Each month we host a catered luncheon for over 80 seniors at a local church.
The YMCA also hosts game day and ice cream socials and a crochet club too. We recognize that the human interaction is critical to living well. We work hard to help our seniors stay connected and our goal is to raise $5,000 to help support our social offerings. Specifically, this money will be used to support our social offerings activities.
During the GIVE65 Event only, the GIVE65 Incentive Fund will be matching donations dollar-for-dollar up to a total of $1,000.
