Sol Adventurers Live is an intergenerational mixed media project between elders and young adults globally. The project is designed to chronicle the wisdom and experiences of elders (50+) while refining the soft skills and exploratory method of inquiry for young adults (14-24) resulting in a comprehensive, intergenerational, experiential learning process. More than mentoring and leadership skills development, the program provides an informal environment where youth facilitate conversations with elders and wisdom keepers that transform generational barriers and create lasting bonds. The audio interviews are live on the agency's newly launched Internet Program, "Sol Adventurers Live: Inspiration for the Soul, Solutions for the Future."The video interviews will be combined into a documentary that chronicles the life experiences of the community's elders.
The program has a three-pronged focus:
• Mentoring - [elders and subcontract agency staff]
• Communication &Leadership - [critical thinking, soft skills]
• Career Exploration & Documentation- [journalism & chronicling elder life experiences and stories]
[Subcontract agency] professional will guide the development process from concept to project end, working with teams of youth to identify relevant issues, curate 4 interview questions, and develop storyboard documentary concept. Youth are trained to ask powerful inquiry questions that allow the elders to share lifelong experiences and wisdom through Comparative-Historical Inquiry and Theoretical Inquiry. Each Inter-generational reasoning . . . will tackle life lessons, provide co-creative modeling of an intergenerational working relationship, and effective communication. Frequency: The team meets, once a week for 6 weeks, in 60-minute sessions to develop the interview framework. The outcome: Each pair of youth and the elder will participate in a live radio reasoning and 3-5-minute Zoom reasoning to be utilized in the documentary with elders answering the same questions.
The [Subcontract agency] professional will mentor youth on coordinating interviews/technology, post-production editing, researching platform(s) and delivery methods for marketing and promotion of the documentary. Frequency: The team meets, once a week for 6 weeks in 90 sessions to edit the interviews. The outcome:15-minute vignettes, chronicling the history and experiences of program elders.
The teams meet in a larger interactive group session Co-facilitated by Sol Adventurers and [Subcontract agency] to culminating in a Director's Chair celebration/presentation of individually developed and personally designed "Inter-generational Reasoning for the Future " Film Festival. Youth, elders, and staff will sit on a panel and discuss the process, program discoveries/findings, and next steps. Frequency: Once-a-month for 3 months. The outcome: an intergenerational experiential learning project. A documentary. A funding source.
Due to the COVID-19 crisis, all or most of the sessions will be online. The unique aspect of the program is that the objectives/topics and goals are determined by the youthwith the growth and learning experienced through an exploration and discovery model. All skills imparted and developed have a broad-reaching impact on the communities of all participants by providing transformational and innovative ways to bond and build trust, within the context of intergenerational and interdependent relationships that are founded in shared values, visions, and missions.

Sol Adventurers Foundation has been offering enrichment and mentorship programs in California since 2007. Our enrichment program includes multi-generational organic gardening, seed saving, herbal medicine, Art, Visioning, African drumming, African dance, Capoeira, and Qi Gong. The mentorship program empowers young people aged 14-24 years old. Elders that participate in our programs are encouraged to mentor young people.
Inter-generational reasonings for the Future project will engage 36 youth and 36 elders in the 2020 season. The youth will be guided through the development process from concept to project end, working with teams of youth to identify relevant issues, curate 4 interview questions, and develop storyboard documentary concept. Youth are trained to ask powerful inquiry questions that allow the elders to share lifelong experiences and wisdom through Comparative-Historical Inquiry and Theoretical Inquiry. The elders will be given an opportunity to impart their knowledge and wisdom to be carried forward to future generations. Each Inter-generational reasoning will tackle life lessons, provide co-creative modeling of an intergenerational working relationship, and effective communication. Diverse youth and elders will have the opportunity to see themselves as reporters with important perspectives to contribute to developing literary and verbal skills as well as gaining knowledge that will help us survive in the future.
Our most recent GoFundMe campaign raised $23,295 in 2 weeks time.
Our mission is to empower disenfranchised youth globally to discover their gifts, share them with the world, and gain strength through reconnecting with their community. We honor our elders by giving them the opportunity to pass their wisdom, cultural arts, and traditions to the youth to carry forward.
