Meals on Wheels is a program offered by Blair Senior Services, Inc. to Blair County residents. Residents age 60 years of age or older who are unable to prepare meals for themselves can depend on receiving nutritious meals delivered to their home.
Our older population in Blair County continues to increase and many want to remain in their own homes where they feel more comfortable. This means the need for nourishing home delivered meals is growing. In order to fill this need, many volunteers are required. Adequate nutrition is necessary for good health including mental acuity, resistance to illness and disease, energy levels, immune system strength, recuperation speed and the ability to manage chronic health problems. The Meals on Wheels Program ensures that consumers have access to adequate nutrition even when family support, mobility and resources are lacking.
Meals are delivered throughout Blair County by a dedicated group of volunteers and staff, who are committed to supporting their older neighbors. This vital group also regularly checks on the consumer's safety and well-being. In addition to delivering a nutritious meal, volunteers often provide the only warm smile the consumer receives or person they see that day. Imagine you being one of the reasons someone gets up in the morning and has something to look forward to, a reminder to take good care of themselves.
"Coming to see the people makes my day. We get far more out of this than we give." Dr. Edmundo Grab, Meals on Wheels Volunteer
