The Senior P.R.E.P. (Planning and Resources for Emergency Preparedness) program was an initiative of the Upper Cumberland Area Agency on Aging and Disability (UCAAAD). This program reaches out to the 14 surrounding counties of the Upper Cumberland, to inform seniors on disaster preparedness. This program is underway due to thousands of seniors being stranded at home due to the massive ice storm in 2015, leaving them without food or water. An emergency kit could have provided the seniors with a source of heat, a water source, and countless other items that ensures the seniors safety for up to 72-hours. This allows emergency responders more time to reach the senior and relocate them to somewhere safer. Through donations and available funding, the program is able to disperse emergency starter kits and checklists to seniors in the Upper Cumberland. This is possible due to the Senior P.R.E.P. program holding several events where seniors can receive bags for free and receive information that will educate them on what to do in a disaster.
