Southern Rhode Island Volunteers (SRIV) operates three programs, specifically Independent Aging Support Services (IAP), Volunteer Resources, and Disaster Preparedness & Response. The latter two programs provide services to the broader communities in SRIV's service area which is the 9 communities of Washington County, Jamestown in Newport County, and East and West Greenwich in Kent County (12 of RI's total 39 communities) with volunteer resources to 55 or more nonprofit partner organizations provided to address a myriad of community concerns, some directly impacting low-income senior citizens as does IAP services. IAP's purpose is to help a senior age in place for as long as possible respectfully and with services that support the needs of the aging individual. Services include transportation to health care appointments located anywhere in RI, to grocery stores, food pantries, pharmacies, and farmers' markets; delivery of food through partnerships with Meals on Wheels and food pantries and delivery of food purchased at grocery stores (especially a need with Covid 19); visitation and companionship for isolated senior clients (which is by phone due to Covid 19 at this time), respite for senior caregivers; fall walkway cleanup of leaves, twigs and the like and snow shoveling to clear walkways after winter storms. All services are offered fully except visitation and companionship during Covid 19 social distancing.
Southern Rhode Island Volunteers is the leading provider of volunteer resources for non-profit organizations throughout Southern Rhode Island, serving approximately 361.2 square miles in the Southern one-third of Rhode Island.
In addition to volunteer placement at nonprofit agencies and municipalities, Southern Rhode Island Volunteers manages programs serving at-risk populations:

-Provide transportation to medical appointments for adult populations who are dealing with chronic disease, temporary illness and injury
-Provide free visitation/companionship for elders and/or respite support to caregivers to alleviate their burden and isolation
