Clark and Cumberland counties are rural Illinois counties. Almost all our program participants are low-income. When senior and disabled community members become unable to safely navigate into or through their homes, we do our best to provide wheelchairs accessible ramps, grab bars, durable medical equipment and a home safety/fall risk assessments. We also strive to provide fans and window air conditioning units to those required to utilize oxygen and those with limiting lung and breathing issues. Providing these things makes life so much easier for those in need. All of these items, especially the wheelchair accessible ramps, are costly. One ramp has the potential to wipe out our yearly budget for home safety and improvements.
Our local middle school, Cumberland Middle, is excited to partner with us in raising money for Give65 in July. They are helping us host a Fortnite and Call of Duty video game tournament fundraiser. This will be a fun, intergenerational tournament. It will help Life Center raise money that is very much needed to continue functioning and providing imperative yet costly ramps and additional safety measures in the homes of some of the most senior and frail members of our community, all while the number of seniors and disabled people increase and funding remains virtually the same.
Thank you, in advance, for helping us continue to serve our community.
