Heritage Place of Indianapolis is pleased to be able to expand our engagement with the SHARP community garden, next door to our Indianapolis, Indiana headquarters. Thanks to a unique collaboration with the Shard Harvest Project, Heritage Place members and families have been able to take urban gardening classes and actually maintain an urban garden over the last several years. Additionally, Heritage Place gardeners donate no less than 20% of their "harvest" to food pantries and food rescue organizations specifically serving this zip code area.
With additional funding, Heritage Place would be able to expand our capacity at SHARP, as well as purchase and install raised beds, allowing older citizens the opportunity to garden without excessive stooping or bending. It is anticipated that a community garden with such accommodations will only draw more public attention and support of the organization.
