In 2017, the Cedar Rapids Fire Department came to my home to do a safety check. They checked my fire alarms and we talked a lot about safety in my home. A couple of days later I received a call from the Fire Department asking if I would be interested in having someone from Aging Services contact me about some opportunities they offer. I wasn't sure what to expect but when I spoke with the staff at Aging Services I was excited. That winter I was matched with a college student as part of an Intergenerational program that they offer. The original plan was for us to spend the semester together doing different things. Two years later we are best friends. The student I was matched with is from Africa and does not have any family in town. For the first time in a long time I feel like I have a purpose in life and really enjoy being able to help someone. We help each other and it has meant the world to me.

I am so glad that I was able to learn how to use my iPad through a class at Witwer. Now I am able to Facetime with my family when I can't be with them. The past few months have been really difficult but it's nice to know that I have the support that I need at Aging Services AND can stay connected with the people who mean the most to me despite everything that's going on.

I was so excited to get a meal delivery from Aging Services yesterday. It feels like forever since I have been able to go out to a restaurant and it seems like a hot meal delivered from a restaurant right to my door might even be better. Thank you so much for thinking of me. You are such a caring bunch.
